Does anyone know of cafes in San Francisco using a Slayer? We are looking into getting a Slayer for our coffee bar (opening in downtown Honolulu, HI in early 2013) and we want to check out some cafes currently using a Slayer and ask them about their experience with it since we'll be in the area.

OR does anyone else here have extended experience with a Slayer themselves? I'd love to hear some feedback about using this beast on a day-to-day basis.

Best,

Courtney

Hi Courtney.

How is the support for Slayer in Honolulu? Would yours be the first one on the island? If so, you may want to reconsider.

I haven't been under the hood of one myself, but it's my understanding that it is a rather unusual beast in some regards. This has implications for installation and service - you'll pay more, wait longer, and it's less likely the work will be done correctly the first time.

I believe this is true for any unusual or boutique espresso machines, especially those that use unique systems or approaches.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend a Slayer to any of my clients in NC for that exact reason, and I'm a competent espresso machine tech that's good at figuring out strange stuff and not afraid to call the factory for help. You may not have access to that.

Hope that helps.

Look into Stanza Coffee Bar in SF. They are opening up a new location this week in the Mission district and they are using slayers. You can also email aaron who runs the shop at aaron@stanzasf.com he can get you more information about the machines

Brady,

The support for Slayer is non-existent. Ours would be the first on the island and in the state. Installation I'm not as concerned about because we have the option of Jason coming down to install it for us (he said it's easy enough to install ourselves but I'd rather bring him out here to install it himself). He also said he's engineered the Slayer so that it's simple enough for anyone to service themselves. I'm a bit weary on that but we'll see how it goes if we decide to get a Slayer and have him come down to install it.

I appreciate the advice and thank you for taking your time to reply, I'll take all of that into consideration. This is also why we want to talk to some people who have a Slayer in their cafe so we can talk to them about their personal experience with the maintenance of the machine.

Thank you, Austin!

When we were with Jason at Slayer he told us to check out Stanza and gave us Aaron's email. We will probably get into contact with him before we head to San Francisco. So they will have Slayers at their new location but did they have Slayers at their previous locations?

I think parts would be more the issue, then tech support.  If you've got the only Slayer in town, you might need to carry your own parts cache.  Something to discuss with Slayer.

That's definitely something to think about, that barely crossed my mind (oops). We will discuss that with Jason at Slayer and see what we can come up with in regards to that. Thank you for that bit of advice!
