Dear Fellow Baristas,

I am writing an article for a major newspaper on Tip Jars and people who work for the these jars in different US cities. I am a barista myself who writes occasional freelance articles so I can kind of speak to what the tip jars are like in my city. But I would like to hear from baristas in other cities and compare their experiences with mine. If you would be willing to participate in this mini research I would be very grateful. All I need is for you to answer a set of questions which shouldn't take more than 10 or 15 minutes of your time. So if this is something you can help me out with, please let me know. We can exchange the question and answers through private messaging here or through private emails, whatever you prefer. Hope you guys would be kind enough to help me out.

Sincerely,

J.K.

Hello to all three of you. Thank you for your responses. So apparently, we can only pm each other if are on each others' friends list. So I'm going to send an invite to all three of you. Please accept it, and then I can forward the questions.

Really thank you again for taking the time and effort.

Hi Jay,

Just sent you a friend request. Would be interested in your research, if you are still looking for respondents.

Jesus guys, what is going on with the Private message system here. I paste one line and it says my message is too long? Anyway, I have sent out the first set of questions. There are a few more to follow. I guess I'll have to type out everything. I hope the PM system will cooperate.

Jay, maybe easier to just set up a free online survey form somewhere and paste link.

Hello everyone, so you should find two sets of questions in your inbox. I look forward to your answers. I might have follow up questions depending on the answers I receive, but most likely not.

Thank you again to all of you for your time and effort. I really appreciate it.

Thank you Nick and Olivier for your responses.

Now waiting for Linh and Jim to respond.

Tip jars are very common and most of the coffee shops I have been to have a nice little tip jar. Although I read somewhere that in Japan, it is VERY rare to find a tip jar in a coffee shop (or any kind of shop for that matter).
