Very True Mike...

And what we create in each of our shops will each be individual if we listen to and react to the folks that we serve.

So... what are you thinking your first step is?
Yeah, I hear that... what are your customers thinking? Do they notice the things that, to you, aren't there?

You know, I think it would create a huge loyalty if we asked our customers what they want in our coffee shops.

If we are able to respond to some of the suggestions, we will have a better chance of providing exactly what our customers will spend their money on.
I would agree with the idea behind asking what our customers want. Just do not let it over-ride the basic reasons for being in business! Don't ask me how I found out ! Some folks will run anything they are not responsible for! Who me?
Today, I did talk to a couple folks i know in the business (four metropolitan stores between them) One thing they mentioned was: " If I have gone the full mile and I still am not getting immediate results, I stick to it and the times they change. It may be four months of surviving but they will change!"

Indeed, a written survey would need to be available to all customers who choose to submit their opinions; done with specific questions to get exactly what you need to know.

And you are right Richard, the test is important... and the test needs to be long enough to get accurate results. We cannot simply let change drive us, we need to be engaged in the change and help steer our direction.
Please remember Psych 101! The writer/compiler of a test/survey has a greater influence on the answers than the person tested.

SCAA to Field Consumer Survey

I have a minor in psychology, but I have not taken, nor do I plan to take, Research Methods. My significant other, however, has a bachelors in Psychology, but I don't think she would be interested in the time it would take to do something like this. Time is short in a field like hers.

Thank you for sharing. and NEVER feel guilty about the length of your posts. I like hearing those "stories from experience". It reminds me of how much I enjoyed listening to my Grandfather's stories and bit of wisdom. I miss both of them.

Wow! What a great discussion I am sorry I am reading it so far into it. I have had this discussion with my partner as well and one of the issues that came up in our discussion that I have not yet seen in this chain is as follows. If the credit crunch hits hard will my venders be able to continue to deliver the products I need to run my business? What is their financial capability?

On a political note I think it is time for the American people to clean house and get rid of as many old time politicians in November as we can, they have failed us and we need Change.
I agree. However, they would still be politicians and we would be right back in the same problem we are now. We have given politicians too much power while forgetting the wise saying, "Power corrupts".
