Hi everyone,

I wanted to give a shout out to the member points leaders and expose anyone who is not aware of this feature to it. Basically members can earn points for activity on the site. The highest points scoring option is inviting new members, so feel free to invite your whole address book if you'd like.

Here is more info on the Points System:

Points Breakdown:

Add a song = 5
Add an event = 25

There are 5 things that make up this feature.

1.) Activity - How active a member is.
2.) Rank - The name of the level reached.
3.) Points - Points that each activity is awarded.
4.) Awards - The graphic icon that shows rank.
5.) The Leaderboard - This is where you can view the Top Rankings for this site

Your POINTS will only update when you View your page!

You can climb up through the Ranks by doing the things you do everyday on www.baristaexchange.com.

NOTE: You need to Click the cup icon on your page to View the Rankings Leaderboard. Be aware that other's points will only show when they view the Leaderboard too!

As you gain a higher rank and are given more points - the Award icon on your page will change to reflect your rising Rank.

Click on the points to view the Activity of the member who's page you are visiting. You can check up on any members Activity at any time to see how they are doing.

Please NOTE - If a Site Administrator catches you abusing this system by posting SPAM or frivolous comments to gain points - they will delete those and your points will be automatically deducted. Comments posted to your own comment-wall will not be recognized by the system.

i have to be honest -- i still don't really understand how this point system thing works. i mean, i get that everyday actions are worth points, but what do the points really entail? is it just a way of monitoring activity or do points pay off for something? (are they the barista exchange equivalent to camel cigarette camel dollars -- will the score me a tote bag or a windbreaker?)
lol. love these ideas, and for sure I'll take them to heart. I am also working on a "Partners" discount program for bX members that we should be implementing very soon. Thanks for all the feedback!

I think the leaderboard rocks...I just scored points, niiiiice!
Actually if I am not wrong just posting a comment here is worth a few points! I think most posters do so because they love contributing, not because of the leaderboard. I reckon as mentioned above, an actual incentive tied in to this ladder would be fantastic. However, it may lead to some abuse which would make Matt and Jasons jobs as moderators a bit more interesting! What I like about BX is the fairly solid nature of postings... I would hate to see postings such as :D, :p, :)), :(( etc just to generate points. I think 99% of members would not do that... but you never know... :)

Ditto! (Typed never wanting to be in the herd of 99%ers, of which any coffee professional is most certainly not. Indeed telling Corporate America and the IT World to kiss my arse for good a few years back freed me to a real life of satisfying bean slavery:-)
