Is it my imagination or does everyone in coffee have a connection to Michigan?

I started a group "Michigan Coffee People" but I truly don't know what difference it would make to migrate over there or over here. Maybe Grand Master Matt Milletto has a suggestions? Thanks for sharing all the gory details of you Michigan adventure.
I don't. ;-)
I lived in Denver for 8 years. For the first 3 years I would be "that guy from Michigan" who was always barbequeing in January or playing football in the street when it was above 50. "Why doesn't anyone ever come outside out here" I kept saying. It was in year four while I was fishing in Summit County without hat on and the sun was hitting my head like a laser beam that I first thought to myself, "I wish a cloud would come out and cover that sun up". It was downhill from there. For the next 4 years all I could think of, dream of, talk about was water and clouds and big, thick, gooey thunderstorms and swamps and rivers and lush forests and ducks and fish and hell i even missed mosquitos. By year 8, I was nearly dead from the smog, the arid heat, the dust, the fake landscaping in my yard. I needed a real lake or better yet a Great Lake. I can float in that water all day. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out the surf film Unsalted. I don't care if its 20 degrees for 3 months straight and I haven't seen the sun 46 days in winter or that the unemployment rate is 12% and we talk funny. I will never leave Michigan again people. NEVER. Throw my ashes in Lake Michigan or a swamp when I'm gone. There is no smell or taste or feeling in the world better than sweet sweet fresh water from the largest freshwater system on the planet. If you don't know what I'm talking about, good. Stay in California! Peace!
Yeah, Michigan is alright. I'm an Indiana guy, but visited occasionally. Vacations up there - Sleeping Bear, Traverse City, Manitou, Holland, Ludington, Silver Lake... lots of fun stuff to do. Frankenmuth for chicken, the Clarkston Union mac and cheese. And Bells :) which we're drinking right now.

Michigan has an identity. And a whole bunch of people that can't seem to explain where they are from without holding up their hand and poking at it :)
Oh man... "'Say YES to Michigan'"... haha. Almost as bad as "There really is a Kalamazoo!" J/K Bones

Oh Michigan how I love thee... let me count the ways...
First of all Michigan is beautiful and amazing... We have lakes and forests and hills and falls and some of the most awe inspiring places of beauty in the whole world!! We also have a very unique urban center in detroit. Which I find AMAZING! It's like a steam-punk haven. I could talk about this for a LONG LONG TIME!! Come visit Michigan and I will tell you everywhere to go.

We don't have much of a coffee scene here, but those who are in it are really into it, and theres a very nice little community based around coffee lovers! It seems like I'm friends with all the geeks in the state. It really feels like a Big state wide coffee Family. Say YES to Michigan!!
I think I must be spoiled on the Bell's account. Don't get me wrong, I love me some 2 Hearted and Kalamazoo Stout (I think I'm burned out on Oberon), but I think the whole being 15 minutes walking distance from the brewery has perhaps made me take it for granted. But... Michigan beer is fantastic in general. Dark Horse, Founders (doesn't get nearly enough credit), New Holland (I love me some Dragon's Milk) and, well yes, Bell's all make some killer brews. Our coffee scene is bound to follow.

There really IS a Kalamazoo...and I've got the coffee cup to prove it!
say yes to Michigan! is a great album BTW if you ever find it in a record store.

Michigan is the place! We got the hookz!
I grew up in Grand Haven. Spent my summers wakeboarding, eating at Butch's Beach Burritos and hanging out at the beach all day. Sadly the coffee scene in GH is pretty pathetic. I moved to Indiana for college and got my first coffee job down here, and I have now been here for about 8 years altogether. However, I just had the privelege of setting up MadCap's GB5 not to long ago and also got to hang out at the HopCat in downtown (which serves all of the Michigan's finest brews). If I'm ever freed up to go back for a long stay, I wouldn't have to do much convincing with my wife or myself. It's just dang cool.
for me, it seems like there's a michigan connection to everything ... music, beer, film, coffee ... michigan's stepping up their game ! it's where i got started; michigan has my heart ... america's high five, dude.
The funny thing is... there are a lot of Kalamazoos, I wonder if the other Kalamazoos have the same motto...?
