Now, I realize most of us in this Specialty Coffee community tend to know each other, or at least know OF each other, but just for good measure, I figure some formal introductions would be nice.

My name is Jason Haeger.
I live in Lubbock, TX, and I run EspressoTrainer.com and TX-Coffee.com.
I placed 3rd in the 2007 SCRBC and spend way too much time on coffee forums.

Pleasure to be here.

Congratulations on your (relatively) new in-store training position! How's it going so far?
Hello, everybody. My name's Meister, I'm a barista/trainer/consultant in New York City, and I've been in the industry for somewhere around eight years. I'm formerly of Joe and currently of a side project of my own doing in-home espresso training. I've never competed, but am still thinking about throwing my hat in this year's ring. It depends on that whole finding-time-to-practice thing…

One thing's for sure: I love BarEx!
Hi folks,
I am Phil Proteau and I live in West Chester Pennsylvania. I work for Counter Culture Coffee as the Customer Relations Representative for Eastern Penn. I train Baristas at our accounts from State College to Philadelphia. There is also a lot of coffee education in the form of weekly cuppings open to the public. We have several new accounts opening in Philadelphia in '08 and so the training is ongoing.

Good to be here.
hello, im dan. ive been in the coffee industry for some where around 8 years. starting in seattle, then portland and now in new york city. ive helped open two coffee shops in nyc, the first being some what of a nightmare and the second (still in the works but almost done) a lot better.

ive worked in some truly amazing shops and love teaching people how to make coffee. i legitimately like people, something that is essential to being a great trainer or educator. in all things coffee i am somewhat of an amateur with a strong desire to improve. that said, i consider myself a professional.
My name is Peter Tam, and our company, Kaffa Cafe is in Beijing of China. We started to do our business about coffee in 2000, and started to train baristas in 2002, on requested by a local cafe chain, jointly organized by Sino-Uganda.

We have developed our theory of coffee, and specially for the espresso brewing skills and preparation of espresso based coffee drinks. We recognized that the past experience and understanding about espresso made a lot mistakes, and so we jumped over them and established our own.

What we do is to train the baristas to know and to make very good espresso drinks, consistently at the coffee geek level. Latte art is also included.

Right now, we have trainning centres in Beijing, Tianjin, and Guangzhou of China.
Hello, my name is Ed Whitman. I have been with Peet's Coffee and Tea for ten years, five years in management and five years in coffee, tea and barista training. I too, enjoying meeting others in the coffee industry and sharing ideas. I have justed started judging at barista competitions and have been really enjoying it.
Hello, Ed. Nice to meet you.
It's good to see you here, Peter. (even if we can't seem to ever agree)
Me too. It is not a problem.
My name is Colleen McNutt and I work for Higher Grounds Coffee House in Ft. Wayne, IN. I have been in the specialty coffee business for over 8 years. I spent the first 6 years as a part-time barista during high school & college. After college my role with the company changed...a lot. For about a year I was as the HR Specialist - dealing with hiring and other employee issues - along with still working as a barista. In the past 14 months I have been the General Manager of 5 stores. Now one of my many duties - and it is by far my favorite & most challenging at the same time - is training. I recently added monthly training seminars as an opportunity for my staff to expand their coffee knowledge. One of my hopes for joining this site is to get some advice from people who have been in my shoes.
Hello. My name is Shea Hagan. I've been working in coffee for about 13 years. I got started in training with Illy, in London England and then moved to Portland OR where I now work in Coffee Education and Quality Control for a local roaster called, Portland Roasting. Before all of that I was slinging shots at some great, and not so great places. Glad to be here.
My name is Jared Mockli. I have been in the Coffee Biz for about 13 years now. I have been a Barista, Manager, Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Coffee School Director, Barista Trainer, and Industry Consultant. I have designed and implemented the barista training curriculum for various coffee trade shows, was named one of Seattle's favorite barista's by the readers of the Seattle Times, Voted Best Barista in W Seattle by the Readers of the West Seattle Herald, came in 2nd place in the Las Vegas Millrock Latte Art Competition, and am a certified judge for the NWRBC.

I currently work with Bellissimo Coffee InfoGroup, and the American Barista & Coffee School as a Consultant and Trainer. When the ABCs are not in session, I am often traveling throughout the US helping open new coffeehouses, and raise the standards and profitability of existing retailers.
