What really bad coffee / espresso beverage did you used to swear by, but now can't even think about drinking?
And furthermore, what are you drinking now?
For example, I used to down 3 or 4 (to lapse into Starbuckease) a quad tall 4 pump vanilla breve with whip lattes nearly every day when I worked there for 4.5 years.
I tried one about a year ago just for old times sake and nearly redeposited it on my shoes. It was like hot, melted ice cream and was soooo sickeningly sweet. I've been apologizing to myself about it ever since.
Now, I'm all about straight shots. macchiatos and sometimes a 5-6 oz capp if I need something sweet (hold the whip).
We all evolve. It's good to remember where you came from.

Awesome story, my gramps usta make instant coffee and then heat milk on the stove and pour that into mine instead of water. But yes memories are awesome.

I just want to say that I love that this thread got resurrected. It's so fun to see what crap we used to drink and know that there is hope for the 20 oz. raspberry extra white mocha drinkers out there!
And Lorenzo Perkins (fifth post down on page 4), DUDE! You win. I remember every one of those flavors from the the 'bucks days and even then, well, I'll use your word: hideous. The only thing that I can think of that sounds worse thn that was this one lady who had us drop two shots of espresso into her berry Tiazzi (think smoothie, I know, I'm dating myself). THAT is my all-time "winner". We tried some of the remnants one time and it was just rancidly foul. I know, "rancidly" is not really a word, but it is for what this drink was. Total party foul.

Oh wow. I totally rocked the tiazza with espresso. Half berry half citrus with two shots and cream. Until I discovered shaken black ice tea with espresso. What a road to walk down.
It is really great to remember these horrid concoctions that we, the professionals, created and how we should then relate to our customers who "don't get it".

Oh man, what a fun topic. I used to drink a few horrific things, one was a hazelnut breve, another was when I worked for Starbucks, I don't remember how now but we had figured out how to make one of the cream based frappes taste like Crunch Berries. And when I was a kid I my folks would let me drink this 1/4 coffee/ 3/4 milk 2.5 tblsp. sugar concoction that I called my coffee. I made it the other day at the shop actually, two sips in and I was forcing myself to hold it down. had to pour it out and at the bottom there was may favorite part of the drink when I was a kid: a clump of half melted sugar. Funny how my parents wouldn't let me have the cup of coffee but would load it down with sugar.......?

I never had enough scrilla to buy the fancy shit. i always just got mug after mug of french roast. and then i started working at the coffee roaster/ shop I hung out at. the rest is history. no more french roast for me.

as a kid (yeah, my mom was one of those) i used to drink folger's instant coffee and the international vanilla stuff, later i "evolved" to drinking those awful cotton-candy-in-a-cup french vanilla "cappuccinos" from gas stations. from there i went to drinking starbucks vanilla cappuccinos when i was in hs. of course after 7 years of indie coffee shop experience i now drink fp (mainly award winning or 90+ rated coffees from pt's), double macchs, straight shots, and the occasional double short latte. mmmmmmmmm......ignorance is NOT bliss!

White Chocolate Mocha's all the way- with whipped cream of course! Now I can't drink the things- just plain ol' espresso or a delicious macchiato is where it's at!!! A con panna is nice every now and then! :)

Even though I already replied to this post, my taste has yet again changed since starting my new job as a barista. My favorite drink now is a double Espresso Con Panna with a bit of cinnamon powder on top. So yummy! Far better than those nasty Java Chip Frappacinos and Caramel "Macchiatos" (ugh) that I used to love at Starbucks.
