Favorite Brew Method
Im curious to know what everyone's Favorite brew method would be? Lets say for this conversation we leave out Espresso. Lets stick with other methods. Drip, French Press, Vacuum, Balance Brew, Turkish, Perculator, boiling coffee with egg yokes, whatever. Just curious what different types of brew methods us professionals are using out there. Follow up question, if you have a shop, do you use that method in your shop? As I bring this discussion up I am brewing myself a cup of Tanzanian Peaberry, Bring about 10oz of fresh cool water to about 180
degrees in a cast iron tea pot & pour the water through 2tbsp finely ground coffee in a paper filter straight into a hot heavy mug. Unadulterated & pure. I normally only brew myself coffee 1 cup at a time but if I was brewing more than 1 cup, then I prefer the Vacuum Brewer (I have a Bodum Santos for that) or the Balance Brewer (same basic principal of the Vacuum Brewer but looks cool!)

Mine dropped 6C because I didn't bother with a Tea Cosy today. If I had, it would have maybe dropped 4C or 5C.
A double wall Bodum would be great, but I don't know if they make them in the one cup size.

The Bodum Columbia (double walled stainless steel) comes in their "3 cup" size, which is 12 oz, which is my idea of one cup of coffee.

No problem. I did some more looking around and it appears this is the only one that comes in that small of a size and is insulated. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. FWIW, I do recommend putting a towel over the lid, as it is not insulated and heat can escape through it, but then again, we have already had this conversation haven't we? Haha... :0)

I've seen people use a thick layer of tin foil over the top.

my personall favourite, after espresso, is turkish, i find the prefect brew to let the aromas over power your senses and to really sit down and savour every sip if you have the time to make one. i make mine slowly in a traditional brewing beaker made of copper which was brought in turkey and serve in a fine-bone-china cup

I like a lighter roast through a Melitta, my french press seems to exaggerate acidity which can be overwhelming for some roasts. Hot pot, about a minute off a boil straight into a suitcase thermos and out the door with Curtis Mayfield or Eddie Harris cranked through the headphones : ]

Got to say chemex, provided you put a hot plate under it on "low" because of the poor heat retention. But overall, it provides the best cup with the most convenient (dorm room) cleanup! The hot plate is illegal in the dorm, but anything for a better cup, right? :)

What about dropping it into a wool ski hat and securing with a rubber band?

well, I suppose that would be a good option. Honestly I hadn't thought about it, but I'll give it a try and let you know! That's why I come to this site, the useful advice from knowledgeable individuals such as yourself :)
