Best grinder for retail beans?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good front counter grinder to grind customers beans? We are using BUNN G3 and need a faster upgrade.

Don't have a your problem (yet:-), still using G3's okie-dokie. But when I do will likely be looking at something like the MAHLKÖNIG R2D2 (VTA 6 S). Rated like 10sec/LB, quiet and even grinds.

dittings are real nice not sure the model but we have the same model that the bux and caribou's have it's bad ass has monster burrs and reduces G/T by about 25%

The VTA6S is a fantastic grinder. Unfortunately, it also comes at a fantastic price - plus the size of the thing is a consideration. I have one and it's a monster (both in size and in terms of grinding).
For something a little more budget conscious (and space conscious), I suggest looking into the Compak R140. Large burrs, fast grind times, no static and handsome design.

Alrighty then, rant on:
No... you don't need a faster car because people aren't depending on you having a faster car. Having a faster car doesn't make you have a better cafe with shorter lines and more satisfied customers. If people are getting frustrated at how long it takes to grind through a pound of coffee (and on finer settings on a G3 it can be a little annoying if you are grinding up a bunch of coffee for a couple customers and have only one bulk grinder) then it is a problem and truly is a need. If you are losing customers to wait times and you have the money to upgrade, then why wouldn't you? There is also the scenario where you have a bulk grinder being used for typical drip brewing and for grinding take home beans for customers. If someone has to wait 2 minutes for a bunch of coffee to be ground for a customer and then wait another 3-4 minutes for their coffee to brew, you are probably going to be getting some pretty unhappy customers, especially if it was one of their first trips into your store.
I can understand the complaint about the grind time on a G3.
I need a faster car too, and a more fuel efficient one, but that doesn't mean that my customers at my cafe will be happier. There is nothing wrong with my own two legs, but that doesn't mean that being able to drive to work is an unnecessary extravagance.

Nope, just throwing random numbers out there. I'm not at the shop and don't feel like wasting a pound of coffee, but I would estimate the G3 being about 4X slower or so. No numbers right now, although someone may be able to throw those out there.
Bunn's site claims a pound goes through in under 30 seconds, but no reference to how coarse/fine that grind is, and I'm willing to bet that's a pretty coarse grind.

yeah so I just don't see the value add there when it comes to speed (45 sec. vs. 10 sec.). I can see the argument for aesthetics though.
