My wife and I are talking about taking a trip to Italy this coming Fall. I would like to mix a little business with pleasure.

Anyone know of any particularly amazing coffee establishments to visit in Italy? I'm looking to do some homework, take some notes and some pictures to really make the most of the trip.

Thank you!

I am soooo jealous Mike. the spro world origins so to speak. Do take notes. We here at home "BXer's" will want a cup by cup diary trip guide from you. Talk about a one of a kind coffee educational experience....Wow.

Sant-Eustachio and Tazzo d'Oro in Rome. Tazzo was closed when I went but I heard it was a must. Eustachio was open and busy, serving some eye-opening cappucinos. Definitely a dip in, dip out, check out the sites kind of place.
Cafe Florian in the middle of the San Marco plaza of venice is worth a visit. Very expensive but shoot, the atmosphere is unparalleled. Real old world, extravagant and indulgent. Worth a sitdown and a coffee paired with one of their desserts. Maybe they'll be playing the piano outside. Or maybe the whole city will have sunk by then. Meh.
And anywhere in Trieste. The Illy stores are a must, and I stand by my claim that with all the cafes I saw in Italy, it was those with the red and white illy signs that signaled a quality shot of espresso inside. Caffe San Marco was also a particular favorite.
But there are many different cafes worth scoping out. Its not so much about whats in the cup as the context its presented. All the emphasis on decorum and presentation. The architecture and legacy of the cafes themselves.
Yeah. Definitely got to go to Trieste.
