Just out of curiosity, if you have a machine at home (and it's likely that most of us do), what's your setup like? Further, what other brew methods do you use? Chemex, Press, Syphon, etc. What's your favorite coffee toy in your kitchen?

Never heard of a home machine that could pull shots as good as a commercial machine? Ever heard or used a Silvia. It's pretty close, if you ask me. I've made some killer shots on my Silvia, and love pulling single origin shots on it to try different things. My favorite SO shots now are the Dilworth Coffee Brazil Conquista and our Reserve Bali Blue Moon.

My go-to setup is an Olympia Cremina lever with a KyM Turkish style hand mill..... nothing like working for each shot. Backup is a modded KitchenAid Pro Line espresso machine and matching Pro Line grinder that I modified by transplanting Mazzer Mini burrs into.
Baratza virtuoso (the refurbs are a good deal)
Bodum 8c press pot (glass carafe and full metal filter)
Hario Tca-3 with a Rekrow Butane Burner
Taylor digital scale with 2g sensitivity
Breville Kettle
I usually just filter with a Brita Filter for water
(Hario V60/Chemex/Hario Buono on the Christmas List)
Shadow, I'm curious about the mods on your Proline. We bought the KA Pro Line set as a gift for our daughter's college graduation. She liked it mainly for the Nebraska Cornhusker red color, I liked the dual boilers and other features versus a relatively low price. Mazzer burrs in the KA??? Tell us more about those mods, please!

Sorry... just saw this post. Yeah I think the KA Pro Line combo (machine and grinder) are great for the home enthusiast as well as for the money. I did some mods on the machine to eliminate the so called "leak" at the rear of the machine, as well as modding the drip tray to make the 3-way work a little more effectively without splashing all over.

Grinder mods include making it stepless, removing that retarded finger guard, polishing the throat and chamber to promote bean feeding as well as doing the burr transplant. Many have tried the burr swap, but I took lots of time and worked out a few of the issues most people had and that thing grinds as good as it looks. Truly on par with most commercial grinders. Definitely a true prosumer grinder, but the burr swap does take some time and effort to perform with maximum end result....

For christmas I got my wife the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT-741. Best drip I have had at home so far :)
Virtuoso grinder, REI manual grinder (tempted to attach a powerdrill to it), Behmor 1600 roaster, cupping supplies, 2 sizes of french press, 2 sizes of ceramic pourover, aeropress, and a mokapot.


These are the manual brewing devices I use everyday at home. I happened to have just taken these photos in a makeshift photo studio I set up at home for an article im doing for my coffee website. 4loveofcoffee.com.
Can you tell I love coffee? My two favorite methods right now are the single cup brew cone and the swiss gold permanent gold filter (the black cylindrical one).

The gold filter brews a flavorful cup because the flavor oils make it into your cup instead of getting caught (absorbed) into a paper filter. And the cup it brews has a very fine silt that adds to the body and texture without all the sludge I can get from my press pot.
The Mellitta style cone brews a delicious and clean cup and it seems a little easier to controll the brew time.


And then there is my bedroom with my commercial brew station. Did I mention I love coffee? c[_] (_)o

Direct plumbed Fiorenzato Bricoletta, (which if you read Malachi's H-B Pro's review confirms what I know, it's capable of exceeding stock Linea in the cup and temp surfing made easy with Eric's digital E61 thermometer) paired with mod'd Rocky (which if you've read the H-B Titan grinder shoot-out you see is capable of matching and even beating a Robur in the cup, though of course not as easily or consistently). Twice in 9 years I've attempted to replace Rocky with a SJ but counter space is just too limited. Bric' comes on 4:30am and goes off 9pm by timer so never any waiting for warm-up, unless I get up WAY early!

While I have numerous press pots, Beehouse pour overs, Royal Versailles Balance vac brewer , Ibrik, moka pots, choreador (peasant Costa Rica coffee sock), blue speckled "cowboy" coffee pot 99% of 'coffee' is pulled with the Bric'.

Favorite? The 14kg plated Versailles makes a beautful table centerpiece (nice cup too when very occasionally used.) But equally favorite for uniqueness is the choreador.
