Cleaning an old grinder hopper and dosing chamber?
We purchased a used grinder for our cafe opening next month and the inside of the hopper and the dosing chamber are heavily stained with rancid coffee oils. Can anyone give me some advice on how best to clean the hopper and dosing chamber insides effectively without damaging the plastic? Simply soap, hot water & elbow grease? Rubbing alcohol? Or is there something tailor made for this type of cleaning job? Thanks for your help! - Cash c[_]

I've seen many responses but not the right one...any non-toxic citrus based cleaner (simple green leaps to the front) will do the trick, how long it needs to soak is determined by how crusty it is but Lemon Oils, or any Citrus is the natural enemy of coffee oils as citric acid naturally attacks and breaks down coffee oils.
No Puro-caff, keep that for the espresso machine only. No Oxy-Clean, keep that in the laundry (and unscented is just a masking scent that is overlayed on top of the normal scents to hide them, it's not really "unscented"). Lemon juice will also keep your airpots shiny inside, Squeak & Clean is a citric acid based soak and cleaner that is non-toxic and enviromentally safe to use that works amazingly well on soaking out old dirty airpots.

Or you could always use Puro-Caff... ;)
Seriously Cash, I'm sure Simple Green would work, you could probably squeeze 100 limes overtop of the dosing chamber and have it work too, but from personal experience (and I have seen some scary grinders) Puro-caff works unbelievably well... and in about 10 minutes.
To each his own... YMMV...
