I am trying to decide between two La Marzocco models
2-Group Linea Semi-Auto
2-Group GB5 Semi-Auto
Which is better for a new store? Thoughts?

gb/5 for shore...pid included as well as anti vacum system and new groups etc... more stabile than linea...

The linea is just a tank of a machine and has been the standard since it was born. That said, the gb5 has more bells and whistles included (which makes everything easier) and the gb5 looks so much cooler. You would not be upset with either, but if I were you, I'd be getting the gb5

If money is not an issue go with the GB5. It's based on the Linea but has further developments that improve on the Linea. There is no downside except for the price.

What's the price difference? If there's a big difference, get the Linea and wait for Strada.

Here's my reasoning behind this. The GB5 is a lovely machine, but in a lot of ways, it's LM's rather hurried response to Synesso. It has a PID, but it's really difficult to adjust... No user controllable preinfusion... The top shops needing machines now are getting LM custom builds these days.
The Linea, though, already is a classic. There are always going to be baristas that prefer a true semiauto of that generation. Temperature surfing, those classic right angles... And people know how to customize them. You want PID? Get it. Gicleurs? Add them. And then when you're ready for the Strada, you can still sell it easy because there'll always be someone who'll want a Linea 2.

I have owned a Linea, a Linea with all the GB/5 upgrades but built on a Linea chassis, and a full fledged GB/5. The GB/5 is by far a better machine, easier to set up and easier to use. The pre-infusion is programmable in 0.1 sec increments for both infusion time and wait time after pre-infusion. The brew boiler temperature is also programmable from the front panel.
It is particularly a time saver when back-flushing. You do not have to stand there turning the pump on and off. It is programmed to go on and off thirty times while you could be doing something else.
Lots of other features.
The gicleur is now made of synthetic ruby that is much more stable than the old teflon orifices.

any clue how to program the preinfusion on a gb/5? i don't see any options on my menu. i've got an 06. thanks
