Today I am enjoying a very nice organic Sumatra from Salt Lake Roasting Company in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Coffee always tastes better when on vacation.

Some fantastic peaberry from the Madan estate in Papua New Guinea, last year's crop, still amazing fruit and floral notes in the cup....and isn't everyday a holiday when you have great coffee?

Just had a Victrola Columbia... wasn't impressed. From what I have heard, they have a top ten spot in Seattle's premiere coffee scene. Honestly, it was too dark, the aftertaste was very bland, ashy and the mouthfeel was quite gritty. Unpleasent in my opinion. Now, I do want to say that if I was in Seattle and was unfamiliar with shops up there, I would stop in to Victrola before resorting to going without coffee for the day. It is better than the chains, but they don't meet specialty standards... Thats just my opinion. Don't want to bash Victrola, just want to say... wasn't impressed.

Also just tried a Columbia Supremo from Cup to Cup in Savannah, GA. I am glad I got some explanation before diving into the beans. They need some work. Not terrible. Just not fantastic. Their quote is "Where one cup leads to another" and I could defenitly see it in the future. The roast wasn't bad. The beans didn't look like "hard bean" quality so I am going to assume their beans were reasonable to sub-par. The roast looked good and smelled great, bloomed nicely in the V60, but the finishing cup was rather boring. I can't wait to try them in the future. I hope they meet the goals in their roastery that they are striving for.
