Hi! I'm looking to buy a new espresso machine for home and am having a hard time finding the psi (bars, atmospheres?) info for different machines.
I've got a Starbucks "Barista" machine and was thinking about replacing it with a "Rancilio Silvia".
From what I understand, a commercial machine does about 10 bars (130 psi). Anybody know what my STBX Barista psi is?
Or the Rancilio Sivlia"?
Thanks

I think most of machines have a pump that does over 10 bars. And then they reduce it with an OPV. At least these two machines do. What you can see from other forums around the Internet is that you can modify the one on the Rancilio Silvia if you are not happy of the configuration from the factory. Are you looking for a perfect 9 bars machine?
From what I've read optimal bar pressure is about 9 bar.
The latest Silvia has a pump capable of pushing 15 bar.
Silvia machines built prior to 2005 had problems with the brew pressure being too high (around 11)
Post 2005 after adding an Over Pressure Valve (OPV) they do around 9-10. As Valentin noted the beauty of the OPV is that it is makes it possible to set the brew pressure to what you want it to be.
