Boiler Descale- Hey Mike Sabol
My message service on here is still SOL, I can write messages, It's just that nothing happens when I hit send. Yes, this is the only website this happens to me on. So,
I've descaled this boiler several times using the Everpure Scalekleen in huge amounts with boiling water for several hours, but I've still got a rock quarry happening in there. Got any insight on anything else I could possibly use that's not going to make anyone sick? I've also used a credit card to scrape the inside but it's still there.

I don't really have any magic bullets. I've used CLR with moderate success in espresso boilers. It has to be neutralized with baking powder when you're done otherwise it seems the water climbs up the sides of the tank and makes the steam really wet. You might also try hooking the machine up and overfilling the steam boiler with a strong solution inside and let it sit for a night or two while its on and hot. Just make sure you hang out for the first few hours while it's heating up and starting in on the reaction to catch any boil overs.
I suppose you could take the scientific approach and figure out what kind of minerals were in the water where the machine was used and then research what kinds of chemicals might attack those best. Or you might consider getting a new boiler if it's FUBAR.

Thanks guys. I took the boiler out, and not caring about the chrome soaked the boiler in a big tank and boiled the water/acid using a large element hooked up to 220 with a breaker from a cimbali so it would turn off before the connectors melted. Worked well on all the other parts on the machine. What I really need is a pressure washer that's not 5000 psi. I'm pretty sure that would cause pits in the copper. My 1400 psi pressure washer is dead. You know, maybe I could get one of those kid's chemistry sets at fry's and sort this out real quick.

In the end it came down to good old fashioned elbow grease. I rinsed with warm water while rubbing the deposits off with my fingers. It took a while but we now have the cleanest boiler I've ever seen.
