I'm currently working at a shop that was opened up a little less than a year ago.

It's located in a golf resort that is also an upscale housing community.  This is the first winter, and with just the home-owners to bring in business at the moment, business has BOMBED.  We made a total of $35 in sales yesterday. This is completely opposite (or so I've been told, as I just started working) of the summertime sales, when resort guests are around.

Now, we are outside of a town of about 35,000 (maybe more), and located just off the main highway.  I'm wondering what kind of marketing strategies I should look into (I've been given the job to research) to get the winter business up and going.  What are some of your advertising musts?  What about Facebook, Twitter, etc?  Do you hire outside of the company or do it yourself?

I'm pretty knowledgeable in internet marketing, but only for marketing websites, not businesses, so I'm wondering how I can transfer my knowledge to help my boss out a bit more.

Also, I've read in past articles (I definitely did research before posting this) about a successful shop having 7 points of contact with their customers, but I wasn't sure what this meant.  Any clarity to that?

I'm also looking for articles, magazines, etc to aid in helping my boss understand what needs to be done.  She has a facebook page, but it's not really going anywhere (mainly because no one really updates it).

This is all posted per request of my boss, who is a very kind older lady that really just opened her shop because she loves coffee, but is now in way over her head and wanting desperately to keep it going (I don't blame her, as the coffee really is good).

PS: Sorry... I talk a lot.  Feel free to tl;dr.  Lol
