Black Sheep is a must. My manager and I went there when we were at USBC, and we ran into Andy Newbom and Monica from Barefoot! Synesso, Clover, Anfim, cool cafe....what more could you ask for???

Um, my friend used to work for the Bean Factory. I seem to recall the coffee being good, but, that was five years ago before I got into the industry.

There's always the 2008 SCAA Title Sponsor ...Caribou Coffee.

my problem with Caribou Coffee is my problem with any "big" coffee shop. The moment i walk in and see a fully automatic espresso machine, i've got to walk right back out. I admire the beginings of Caribou Coffee just as i admire the beginings of Starbucks but i can't stand where they have ended up.

Anyway, soorry bout the "rant" and thanks for the ideas. I really do appreciate it!

Black Sheep does not have an Anfim but Kopplin's does.
I have been to shops all over the country and Kopplin's is hands down one of the best.

SO espresso and chocolate - Awesome milk - No size over a twelve ounce.....
They also do taster sizes of their coffee on Clover
No drip brew
Right next door to the best Juicy Lucy in town....

I stand corrected.

I do remember Kopplins. They were great. I had great shots from there!

Alex. I'm certain this was not intentional... but you didn't mention a word about Black Sheep's coffee.

Kopplin's (in St. Paul) is purely an espresso and coffee establishment. They source coffee from all over and rotate their offerings, often featuring two espressos at a time and 4-5 SO coffees brewed on a Clover. What sets them apart is their use of organic milk, SO chocolate, and 3-month training program for baristas.

Black Sheep, Common Roots, and Anodyne @ 43rd are all great cafes that have excellent, varied menus, source local foods, and have a nice ambiance. But they all leave me wanting more with regards to espresso and coffee due to inconsistency amongst baristas, or poor espresso, or poor milk steaming, or commoditized milk, etc.

All of the above are excellent options in the Twin Cities but for varying reasons.
