I'm not familiar with the Mac espresso machine but most machines have a drain on the bottom of the boiler.  Look for it, just be sure that you have unplugged the machine from the electric, shut off the water and bled out the pressure!  If you don't, you will be in for a very unpleasant experience.

If you can wait until tomorrow, call up Nuova's office in Bellingham, WA for assistance.

Agreed with Jay regarding the preparation.  The guys at Nuova Simonelli are great resources, by the way, and happy to answer questions like this on the phone.

That said, here's how I do it:

Check out this manual, page 13, and look at the kinda washed out schematic on the page.

After turning off, unplugging, bleeding all pressure, letting it cool a bit, and verifying that your drain line works properly, do the following:

FIRST double check the boiler pressure gage to make sure that your pressure is zero.  This is VERY IMPORTANT to avoid seriously burning yourself.  Once you've done this...

1. Close Valve #1 to turn off water to the fill valves.

2. Close Valve #3 to keep from burning your fingers with boiler water.

3. Look in the front left corner of the drain box for the brass plug fitting.  Remove that plug, making sure to use two wrenches to brace the other side of the joint.

4. Open Valve #3 and drain the boiler.

5. Once you've finished, replace the drain plug and re-open Valve #1.

6. VERY IMPORTANT... If you are going to continue to use the machine, fill the boiler manually most of the way before powering back up.  To do this, open Valve #2 until the water reaches the "minimum" level mark on the sightglass, or about 1/4 way up the sightglass if the "min" mark isn't present.  Failure to do this may result in burning out your heating element... which is an expensive mistake.

Hope that helps.

Why are you draining, by the way?

Thanks so much for the replies!! Ive been a member here for almost 2 years and have never used this as a resource until now... I likes, and will continue to be more attentive to this site!!

Hey man, you guys are soooooo on point!! Well, I have been in Business for 9 years, but closed last April... Just re-opened in a new location and my machine is going crazy, filling boiler all the way up and now, I heard a pop and the front panel that controls the group heads is out...everything works fine now, except there is no power to my group heads... I can steam milk, but cant make espresso... is there a fuse or seperate power scheme for the control pad????

Wow.  That sounds like a serious issue.  Time to call a tech.

Did your tech verify the power to the machine when it was installed?  I wonder if there might be a voltage, ground, or other wiring issue?

Good luck!
