I would like to hear any suggestions or thoughts you may have on how you are taking drive thru orders. Do you have a menu board with intercom? A separate ordering window? Any suggestions would be great as we are in the process of renovating an old church into a drive thru/sit down coffee house.

Details on the site:
The building is in a small town that is the crossroads to 4 larger cities. The daily traffic count in front of the building is 40,000 a day. The daily traffic count at the intersection, which is 100 yards away, is 60,000 a day.

Thanks,
Victor

If you go with an intercom for the love of god please dont make all your employees wear headsets. At least not ones who are going to talk to customers in the front of the store. That is one of my HUGE pet peeves, goes along with service employees wearing bluetooth headsets...

If you only have one employee at a time just have one window. If you can have two employees at all times then have two windows or the intercom system. I would only go with the intercom if the building did not allow for a second window along the drive up side.

Also just a note, make sure you are not on the wrong side of the road for the morning traffic. That can make or break a volume drive through stand.
Victor,

Sounds like a great location. With that a 1% capture rate you're looking at 400 customers a day so just under an average of 30 per hour. You have to weight that and figure that you'll need to be able to do 60 or 70 customers an hour during the busiest times in the morning. You will certainly need a menu board and intercom, a que for at least 2 cars between the board and the window. To be able to really capitalize on the traffic and you need to find an architect with lots of drive thru coffee experience.
