High Quality Printers...What are you using for labels?

After a conversation with my local printer today, I've finally had enough grief from them that I want to buy a label printer and start doing my own date stamping, product names, etc, on a pre-designed label stock.

What printers are folks using that don't cost an arm and a leg? I'm willing to give the arm, just not the leg, too!
