Must-visit shops in PDX?
Next month (late September) SCAA will have its annual leadership meetings in Portland to plan for the big Event next spring. I haven't been to Portland in an embarrassingly long time, but of course I hear a lot about the local coffee scene.
So, please, what are some of the "can't miss" coffee bars in town? (a few great restaurants wouldn't hurt, either)

Honestly... that's it right there Matt. I might include Coffeehouse 5, I always get solid shots off of them. Stumptown as well, although I've been preferring Barista (Pearl) for my Stumptown shots as of late. I hear that Water Avenue place is pretty lousy ;p jk, Matt.

(I promise I like origins other than Honduras, lol)
Sterling's new Yirg is pretty solid
Matt do you guys still have "The Delicious?" lol that was seriously an awesome coffee. Got some from Anthony at Paper Tiger here in Vancouver.
Marshall, If you make it across the Columbia River, we'd love to have you over at Compass.

It's not necessarily in PDX, but Paper Tiger Roasters in Vancouver, WA is the sweetest little shop.

P.S. I am a partner in Water Ave, and have a bit of bias. :) It's awesome that Vancouver WA has a coffee crawl and blossoming coffee scene. I need to cross the mighty Colombia soon!

- Extracto
- Ristretto
to the list? Not as well-known, but worth trying. Also, I can't let anyone come to PDX without recommending 2 restaurants:
- Olympic Provisions on SE 2nd
- Pacific Pie on SE 7th
Both provide a very unique atmosphere and the best food on this side of the Willamette River, in my opinion.

Oh... yeah... duh to Public Domain, Extracto and Ristretto. My bad for forgetting those. Especially Public Domain. I've had some rough shots at the other two, but they are usually fairly consistent and solid.
Paper Tiger isn't what it was 3 weeks ago, sadly. The shop is up for sale and the awesome baristas that worked there abandoned it when the owner/roaster starting dropping quality to increase profits.
I give Paper Tiger 3 more weeks before it isn't open. It's really too bad, it was awesome to have another roastery in our town.
Having said that, Joshua, stop in to the downtown cafe on Wednesday morning or the Roastery location on Wednesday afternoon and I'll be more than happy to pass ya a freebie (Compass Coffee). More shameless plugging for this thread :)
