Six days in the waiting and just witnessed a practice match officiated by
The Bric'. Back to back they faced each other, drew their portafilters and
shot each other. At one end of the field Haile Selassie the other Jimma
-Negusie Lemma. Both with demitasses fiercely blazing. No quarter given, no
white flags here, they mean business even if the Title Match isn't for a day
and half.

The crowd grew hushed as the crema cleared, their elixir exhausted. A close
duel to be sure yet was the thought to be straight shot favorite Jimma
holding back? Did Jimma let Haile take the field today only to rest another
day and half and surprise Haile with his deadly pull when it really counts?
More will be revealed!

(And yup I drank both double shots this evening. Prepared myself for the
ordeal with a 24.5 hour day yesterday followed by 3 hours sleep:)

11am NY Day Morning...

Everyone at the bar looks happy. They must have been the designated drivers ;-).

Man those were terrible photos, who took them? Oh yeah, that was me in a rush with my phone!

Turned out to be a great anniversary party and best of 2010 SO DP Espresso shoot-out. When the smoke cleared final tally of votes was a dead tie between Haile and Jimma. Ryan said my vote would decide it, but as I tell customers all the time when it comes to exceptional coffees, there is no best. Like which child do you love best! Loved 'em both for different reasons with Haile a bit more complex and balanced with smooth extreme buttery richness body, stones fruits of peaches and apricots and slight bitter almond milk chocolate accents while Jimma a bit narrower taste band with more aggresive deeper stones fruits of riper peaches and plums and hints of berries, floral accents and bit of more bitter sweet dark chocolate. Either and both killer coffees.

Just made it with the two platters I sliced up last night of my apple and maple wood smoked ham, apple wood smoked sharp cheddar and cherry wood smoked gouda. They got raves too. Plenty crackers left:)

Scheduled to close at 3. And we flipped the sign. Lighted closed sign means nothing! And closed again for real at 4 :) Great start to 2011. At the register not to shabby too.
