HI everyone

I have about 6 month old La Marzocco 2 group head semi-auto espresso machine in our shop.

We had it reconnected because we went under renovation for about 2 month. We hooked it up with reverse osmosis water filter system this time, however our machine starts to make rattling noise when the boiler is filling up. So I looked up on Internet and found out that the flow from the water filter might causing the problem -- I noticed that the RO water filter system had a 1/4 inch water pipe which I thought too small.

So I called the local service shop to have the Mavea water filter installed instead (w/ the 3/8th water pipe). the water flow got better, our brewer lets out water faster. And that was yesterday. Today the rattling noise seems to keep visiting every time that boiler tries to fill up.Any suggestion to why? and how to fix it? Should I call the technician to do overall checkup? I am getting worried that it might harm our precious Marzocco!! Any help would be appreciated!!

What did your tech say when he was there replacing the filter?

I seem to recall hearing a strange sort of clangy-rattle with some Lineas that I've worked on, though can't be certain right this minute.

Check your machine's installation spec sheet to be sure, but your machine likely needs a little more than .5 gallons per minute. I prefer to see flows more along the 1 gallon per minute. This is super easy to measure, requiring only a 4 quart pitcher and a stopwatch. Just disconnect a supply line (after the filter) and then time how long it takes to fill the pitcher - under a minute and you're good to go.

Since your rather new machine is still under warranty (right?) I'd certainly call your dealer/tech and describe the problem and noise to them and see what they recommend. At 6 months out, you're likely due for a PM visit anyway. Even if they dismiss it, you've had the conversation and can remind them of it if it turns out to be a problem after the warranty runs out.

Good luck.

GUESSING: If it does not make the noise when dispensing hot water nor when brewing (only during boiler fill) then it might be the boiler fill solenoid not opening fully. It might be as simple as a boiler fill line vibrating. In any case, under warranty? Call the tech back.

Randy is right. It's usually an electrical current issue which your tech can test, but may need to be fixed by an electrician if it's your 220 line and not the machine.
