I have a story you a lot of you would love. My mom got Ritual Lifesaver because she heard all the rage about it, and hated it. Infact, she didn't like it to the point that she mixed it with costplus coffee so she could stand it.
This made me a laugh at first, and then made me quite happy that my mom showed her opinion that bluntly. She certainly does not share my obsession with coffee, but like so many others she brews a pot of drip coffee every morning and often drinks its black.
She does not like coffee for its various flavor notes or intracacies. She likes coffee for its texture, caffeine, and then simple gritty coffee taste. To her, all the 3rd wave and specialty coffee peoples taste for coffee is more like pretentiousness than being knowledgeable about coffee. She also noticed how displeased the barista was when she asked to grind her pound of coffee, but she does not even own a grinder.
I suppose this is just another story to ponder how we should act as baristas in serving our customers. Don't forget your coffee roots I say!
