So what is up with the Oreos
Hello everyone,
today I begun wondering about Oreos. The thing is, crushed Oreos seem terribly popular in US for a variety of purposes and while I do not see anything wrong with it, I wonder why Oreos in particular. I mean, over here (Czech republic) they are not so popular (and usual, they started to push into market like they mean it over here like 2 years ago) and I do not see anything special about them. So why do they get mentioned so often?

Well on the one hand a recent experiment suggested that the Oreo may be as addictive as cocaine. So there's that. But the real answer is probably a combination of tradition and cultural popularity. Oreos have been the most popular mass-produced cookie in America since their introduction over a century ago. Why? I have no idea. You can't second guess what's popular. But at this point a lot of people grow up eating them, and I guess they develop an attachment to them. Personally I would rather have a fresh-baked cookie or pastry any day over one of these, but that's me. As to whether they can break through the cultural food barrier of other countries, who knows? I think that they'll do OK in Europe, but I doubt they will ever be as popular as they are here.
