If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
maybe
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I think its the best coffee bar in north america - yeah, I said it!
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
All
About Me:
I'm 29, been married 7+ years.
I have a 4 year old little girl named Lilly who loves coffee.
My other interests are: theology, music, cycling and reading.
I play sudoku with a pen and I like most people.
I believe that to consider yourself a professional barista you should know more about the industry than how to operate your espresso machine and grinder. Just because you can pour latte art doesn't mean your a good barista. I think baristas should know about different brew methods, varietals, farms and above all the farmers who grow the coffee. Baristas should be educators.
We are the last link in long chain and the industry does not revolve around us.
About My Company:
I work for Intelligentsia... in LA.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Great seeing you at the roasting works , albeit briefly . Look forward to spending more time the next time . If you make it up north , you're always welcome at Ecco . Best to all of our friends in LA .
hey nick,
I like that bit that boing boing did on you guys... I'm seriously jealous of your tricked out roaster in LA... hope things are going well with you
Things are good, missing everyone at intelly...very much. I hope y'all have that Western Regional wrapped up...she's gonna be amazing at it!! I was thrilled when I found out she could be putting it together!
Hey Nick,
Mike invited me so he could get more points but I've been reading and tracking some of his discussions and stuff to just get a little more "wet" in the industry. Did he tell you I finally got my first training session from him at Augie's and I'm kinda hooked. We just have to make more time to play on the machine at home or I can get a sitter like I did the other night and go down to Augie's on a slow night and pull some shots and steam some milk! I have soooo much to learn-but I'm gettin' on board! COFFEE WIVES UNITE AND THIS OUR MEN EXCITES!!!
"This espresso is not subtle, introducing itself to the palate with chewy chocolate covered cherries and then lingering heavy on the tongue and finishing with crisp, sweet citrus. The hallmark of this blend is its body, balance and sweetness. Designed specifically for espresso extraction. " Man that discription makes my mouth water! Wish there was a place in town that served this pretty kitty!
Was your daughter a butterfly for halloween? Our little girl was a garden gnome, and, while she didn't have a choice, I think it was best for everyone involved.
It may seem ridiculous, but, I've created a group on bX for the likes of portatilfter toting people who aren't afraid to reproduce (and deal with the by-products).
Maybe you can point me to people who are in the same situation? I'd really like to explore what it means to be a coffee professional and a parent.
I saw you at Regionals last year, so I was excited when I saw your welcome to BX. You left it in August, I set my page up and let it sit. You have a beautiful family and I am a big fan of your company and skill. I'll see you at Regionals!
I watched you compete and from my perspective it was really cool. The two part drink was really very simple and still seemed complex. Over all I really wanted to taste it and it looked great from my view. Great job Nick to you, your knowledge, your roaster and your buddies who took 2nd and 3rd.
Congratulations!
It was a great performance, i had the chills watching you do such a great job!
Also nice to meet you this last weekend have a good day.
you sir are a true coffee man. you were awesome and rocked it well. The farmer has to be so proud.
Thanks for the kind words. Teh Foot team had so many awesome things to say about you and the rest of the Intelli crew.
Nick, I couldn't agree with you more. Please understand that I mean no disrespect in any way, bro. You are actually a serious influence in my quest for coffee knowledge and understanding. Below is what I posted on the Westword website:
"I just want to clarify some things mentioned in the above interview. In no way was I intending to assume the practices of any fellow coffee professionals. I hold the utmost respect and gratitude for everyone's hard work within the coffee/Barista community. This interview was cut and pasted together from a long conversation by telephone. The tone may seem misunderstood and I want the public to know that I am extremely thankful and honored to be in the company of such highly-regarded teams, such as Intelligentsia Coffee and Caffe Sole. I apologize for any misrepresentation of my own professionalism. Thanks."
I truly hope I have not tarnished myself in your eyes and I look forward to meeting you in person. I admire you contacting me to share your thoughts. Hope to hear from you again, sir... -G
I will be competing against the killer Intelly line up for Millrock. Nicely and I already decided were just gonna have to teach the mid-coast how the west coast gets their pour on.
