About Me:
I am an older kid who is thirsty for more great coffee and more coffee knowlege. I am the Coffee Program Developer for Dillanos Coffee Roasters and have been with the company for nearly 4 years. You have probably seen me at CoffeeFest snapping the photos for the Millrock Latte Art Contest or at the Dillanos Booth. I love coffee. Plain and simple. I love the fact that this is an industry that will truely allow you to be yourself and not shackle you for it. You can be as crazy as you wanna and you can still succeed. You can't say that about most jobs.
About My Company:
We are always trying to get involved in more and more aspects of the coffee industry. Dillanos Coffee Roasters has been a member of SCAA for over 10 years. Not only have our employees written article for every coffee magazine out there, we have volunteered time at The Annual Conference as Room Hosts, Station Instructors and Speakers. Our Director of Coffee, Phil Beattie serves on the Roasters Guild Executive Council and has been a judge at many Cup of Excellence auctions. A lot of our other employees are members of the Barista Guild. We have been running the Millrock Latte Art Contest and have been key contributors in the Business Seminar at every Coffeefest in America and will be doing the same at the upcoming show in Hong Kong. Also, on three separate occasions, Roast Magazine has recognized us as one of the top three finalists in their annual Roaster of the Year issue.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Word. You are a good man for that job. See you in Seattle? Maybe we'll jam to some Pantera or Britney Spears duing the comp. this time. I'll put together a Millrock 08 get psyched mix or something.....
Was good to meet you in D.C. as well. Hope you made it back safe. Definitely let me know next time you are in the Northeast. I think it would make sense for us to discuss some possible joint opportunities.
Hey I live with joe and am close friends with Rob and for the next few weeks(the remainder of my stint in Cape girardeau) will still be ordering from dillanos the coffee that makes us all smile and open our eyes in the mornings.
Oh, won't you be my friend? (sung in a baritone's voice)
I hope to see you at SCAA. I'm a pretty busy guy right now though. I'm sure I'll see you before too long though. I know it can be tough at times. Stay strong,... Stay strong.
I don't think I will be at SCAA in May just because I'm freakin' broke. For the same reason, I'm still in Michigan right now. I want to get things taken care of on this end (financial, etc) before making the shift to Chicago. It will happen, but I'm not going to force it and end up having to move back to Michigan because of money or something like that.
hi jay, sorry for scaring you at SCAA :D I used to work with Sharon Davis at Caffeine Dreams in Omaha, and then at whole foods. she told me about that roaster apprentice job at dillanos that you told her about. so. . .that's how I knew who you were :D haha
haha! I was actually pretty shocked to see you there. I thought you looked familiar and then i saw your name tag said dillanos and I figured it out. my mouth actually works faster than my brain when I'm on caffeine so it all happened really fast. anyway - cool to meet you! are you going on any more origin trips this year?
I'm trying to save/raise money to go to Timor in august, I am also trying to go to South Africa to work as a barista in cape town for a while. I spent too much money going to costa rica last year - I don't want to make that mistake again but it was still totally worth it.
Awesome to see you again and in such a great place too! It was nice to get to chat a little more then normal. See you some time soon and drinks for sure!
so nice to meet you at coffee fest! man, what a fun experience! wish i poured like I do at work, the shakes really took over. would love to have those pics e-mailed to me though, just to know what didn't get me to the top 10! ;) next year will be different.....mwhaha. keep in-touch, i can always use more coffee friends. can't wait to see who took 1st place. it really could have been anyone's game.
Jay....it was great meeting you this past weekend, your truly an advocate for the industry and a valuable asset to your company. My wife and I enjoy talking with you and I would assume if we didnt have to bolt Saturday we could've talked with you for hour! Thanks for all the great information and I wont forget....my baristas determine how much they make!
Thank you so much for all you did for me, I will be sending you the video as soon as I can. Your amazing and thanks again for your support of prob one of the most indie corp chicks around ( me )

I'm working tonight until late, so I'm sorry if I don't answer. This sounds awesome! Talk to you soon...
Hi Jay- Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work. The competition ran so smooth and I had a great time. It's always fun meeting coffee people that are as nice as you. Happy relaxing!
Way to rep Tacoma, Jay! What a great weekend. It was awesome to hang out with you and everyone else. Who else would have had a metal band play in an antique shop?
Hey there great to have seen you this weekend. Love the froggie hat! Hats off to you for that killer knit. Also I can see why this coffee is your fav right now. Take care and sorry that this ol man didnt make it out on sunday. boo=(
Hell yea you should fall in love with Chicago. As far as when our paths cross again well that all depends on my current sugar momma and what she can afford. heeee we really want to try to go to work, but think we need to take a pass on US due to funds, but only time will see so I hope SOON is Soon enough!
Nice job this weekend guy... Yesterday when I was listening and watching the finals from the comfort of my home I could have swore you said you picked a banjo. I pick a lil mando from time to time too
Well if you have a hankerin' to take lessons I know a really great guy in the Point Defiance/Ruston area. I've been taking lessons from him for a few years now.
Emma Minigan
And also merci. Hopefully in Seattle my nerves won't get the best of me.
More beer spilling in the future.
