What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
In no other industry is the whole world so affected by the sweat and care taken at every stage in the process to produce such a temporal, yet timeless commodity. Coffee beans can only be used once, yet there affect is to tranport the drinker into the history of revolutions, martyrdom, and late nights :) There is no substitute for a truly delicious brew, and yet all of its potential can be dashed by one mistake made along the long road to the cup.

    Have a great week Daniel

    I know, I know...

Just to rub it in a little, I'm going to do some cupping and help with the clover specs on Friday.

Sorry that I haven't gotten back to you until now. I will attempt a lengthier response at a later date. As you can tell by the time stamp on this note, and the sheer number of hours I spend at the shop, this is the time of year I spend working from awakening till bedtime.

Thanks for introducing yourself; we'll have plenty to chat about. More later...

Obviously a west coast website. The time should read 4:16. I get up at four most mornings. If this site promotes the glamorous side of the coffeehouse phenonemon, then I am living proof of the harsh reality of ownership.

Time to make the donuts, as they say.
  • Justin Holinka

It went alright. We're still working on the final roast profiles. The grand opening is still a little in the air, we're waiting on some equipment... I'll let you know when it's happening though.
  • Jennifer Graham

Thanks for your virtual friendship and great advice! Ironically, the folks I work for would rather buy the very expensive naked portafilters! DIY is a little too renegade for them. HAH!
  • Maggie Cook

That would be great! Let me know when you're coming :)
  • Aaron Gipp

intruder?! dan may i remind you of the countless times you asked me to join this site?
  • Aaron Gipp

    dan, i've got points!
  • Justin Holinka

Yeah, it was one of those home frothers. Cream was cold. It was at Kopplin's; a recent addition to the menu.

So I'm in Chicago right now, very reminiscent of Coffee Fest...oh, and I'm going to The Violet Hour tonight with Tyler...
  • Andrew Tagge

Haha. I know. I can't believe how experienced he is after being involved in coffee for such a short time. He is a model for all of us.
  • Bam

I did a report on Illinois in the 2nd grade.
  • Bam

Crap. Actually, it was Arkansas. Both states end in a silent S! I'm so embarrassed.
  • Bam

Arkansas, also known as 'The Natural State", is the birthplace of our president, William Jefferson Clinton.
  • Justin Holinka

Yeah, we've got the Beloya all figured out. It's not as good as PT's, but better than the stuff from Black Sheep. However, we have a bunch of Ethiopia Amaro Gayo which, in pretty much everyone's opinion at Bull Run, is better than the Beloya. We're still have not opened, which is quite frustrating; but we're told the space will be ready for opening on Tuesday. We should have our online store operational right around that time as well. A lot of craziness around here as of late...

dan, nothing in the world could separate me from coffee, my first and only love.
  • Nick Throckmorton

I'm off to Portland (and possibly Seattle) on Tuesday. So far the list is as such:
    1. Barista/Barista 2
    2. Stumptown
    3. Coffee House NW
    4. Heart

Any more places that I must visit? What about seattle, is there any must visits?
  • Nick Throckmorton

Thanks D! I'll telly Billy Wilson that you said hi.
  • Deanna Kennedy

Hey Daniel! I was reading up on some older threads and someone had suggested you pick up a copy of the Professional Barista Handbook. I was curious to know if you did pick it up and if so if I might be able to borrow it sometime? Otherwise I was planning on ordering it!

    Thanks and Happy Easter!
  • Deanna Kennedy

Oh that Scott...! Well, I will get on him about it soonly so that I can hit that up! Thanks again! :)
  • Deanna Kennedy

awe man! Well, it doesn't hurt to try! Out of curiosity, do you have anything else you may be willing to lend me that is a great resource? I have never done much reading up on coffee and so I would love to soak up what I can!

Also, when will you be returning to the shop?
  • Deanna Kennedy

Thanks so much! I will most certainly have to check that out! I hoarded the blue binder the first week I was there, so thanks for the great info. I forgot there were sites listed on that so I will probably check some of that out!

Best of luck with the semester! Danke!
