Hi, I'm currently studying abroad in Bilbao, Spain. I knew coffee would be different, but I also expected better quality. It's all super dark roasted espresso...it doesn't taste very good.
I found some cool places. My favorite is a tea room called 'The Willows'. But can anyone help me find a real one!?
Illy isn't ideal, but it will probably be better than what I'm having. But if it means slightly better quality, I'll roll with it. I've also only seen 1 la marzocco! :( not that anything else is bad...but you get it

Well, two reasons, in Spain you get most of the coffee from Africa and that is heavy coffee, not at all like the "suave" coffee characteristics from Colombia, panama, guatemala and costa rica. Also, they get bad colombian blends so that is why they have to roast it that dark, to hide the imperfections and bad quality.
i had a food broker from Valencia pitch my coffee to coffee shop chains in spain and we never got anywhere. they had heard about Tarrazu, they loved the samples but never wanted to put up the money for the quality. he ended up pitching german and dutch companies from spain and they were more appreciative of the quality i sell.
