I have a slim mill, and it was awesome, but...unfortunately it broke, in an almost unfixable manner. What happened is the part of the axel that grips a plastic insert to turn the burs stripped out the plastic insert. Basically, when I turn the handle, it just tightens the burs all the way. I spent the better part of 3 hours trying to fix it, jam stuff in it to grip it...but it was all a no go.

I've been considering the Baratza Virtuoso, but the price always makes me think. I want well ground coffee quickly, but still..200+ is tough on the wallet.

Is the skerton faster than the slim mill? Also, I know it wouldn't have the same problem because the the way it's built is different.

I have come to the conculsion that hand grinders are good for one thing(newer hand grinders that is), and thats grinding fine. The finer better. I have a kyocera and use it everyday for espresso, and it does a pretty decent job. Ive tried using it for other things like pour overs and french press and it fails pretty badly. You know how there set up, cause you own(ed) one. The courser you go the most wobble in the burrs. So I say you have a few options, look for an older box grinder(pede, zass, etc) that has both burrs stableized. Or for a newer electric grinder like the virtuoso, or better yet! The good peoples at orphan espresso(by far one of the best coffee sites) have invented the pharos!!! Which is like a titan hand grinder!!!! Its basiclly a hand held kony, and i was made with one thought in mind... perfectlly aligned burrs!!! Its about 285 if i remember correctlly. One last point and ill shut up, I bought a capresso infinity as a present for someone and it sucks. Gind quility is just ok and it retains about half the coffee you put in it. I hope some of this has helped

Thanks! Sick site. I get skeptical to spend that much on a hand grinder, but it's actually about 40$ cheaper than you thought.

Now that I read about the pharos...I need it! It's so beautiful, and it reads, "As quick as 15 turns, 25 for espresso." I'd like to know how many hundred times I'd turn my slim mill for a pour over. At least a solid minute or more of cranking.

Oh yeah, I forgot, do you know how to MOD the pharos? It says it does not have a grounds drawer, and there isn't a hole in the bottom, where to do the grounds come out? And how do you disassemble it to access them?

Nevermind, found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHNRX8NG0sk

Regarding the Baratza Virtuoso: I have had one for about a month. I don't know why I waited so long, other than the same reason you have. But if you check the Baratza website frequently, you can find refurbished grinders. That's what I did. Saved about $50. Another option is some of the older hand grinders. I have a Dienes Mokka, which is at least 50 years old, but is fully adjustable, and grinds a nice espresso grind, as well as pourover.
Awesome, thanks! I also saw on orphan espresso, they have skertons that have been modified to not wobble, and are about 80$ I believe, that's pretty cool, but now that I see this really expensive awesome pharos...I want it! haha, but it honestly seems worth it.

The pharos is truly amazing, and to have a titan grinder for under 300 is hard to believe. If i didnt have a ton of grinders all ready i would be looking into it.(all though I really do need a drip/press grinder) If you do order one let us know what you think when you get it.

I definitely will, I`m hopefully getting one asap. Though I won`t have the money to preorder one, I`m going to as soon as I have the money, so fairly soon.
