Look at the La Spaziale S1 and the Dalla Corte models.

 

Consider your power source: AC local, DC mobile or generated power?  From what I recall, the S1 and the Dalla Corte use low AC power consumption (comparative to other models).

 

The La Marzocco GS3 might also be a consideration.

Jay is correct regarding power source consideration, BUT most compact models have small(ish) boilers and may not keep up in some situations. Never used any of the models Jay mentioned, but I do use a 2 grp NS Aurelia in a mobile setup and can honestly say I wouldn't want anything less. Sometimes I am steaming 32 oz. pitchers of milk back-back while extracting from both groups and it keeps up just fine, but it also has a 14 liter boiler and a power consumption of 4500 watts every time the element kicks ON. The p-stat in THIS Aurelia has a fairly tight deadband and it constantly recovers while being used. Never once had downtime for any reason with it.

Have a few friends that have gone the mobile route, went with lesser machines (2 grp compact and 2 grp gas fired lever) and had downtime between batches of drinks because the machine just couldn't keep up with the demand placed on it.

*If you're going to have a steady supply of 220v power and enough space in the vehicle, then get as much machine as you can afford if espresso based drinks are your primary focus.

*If you have to go with a smaller generator or inverter(s) then something on the smaller end would be necessary. Just know that with smaller boiler setups or 110v power supplies recovery/demand is going to be a factor.

This helps tremendously since you have a mobile unit as well! Since I will be opening in January, I will need to have as much power as possible! Thank you too for giving me brand names. Have any suggestions for a generator as well?! Since you are running this machine?

There are many generator choices... this depends on fuel source, size, noise ordinances, etc. There are pros and cons to every model available and you usually get what you pay for.

 

Propane... Great all-around, clean burning, fuel efficient, typically quiet all things considered, propane will keep in tank(s) indefinitely. May be hard to find filling stations on weekends, odd hrs, etc.

 

Diesel... Very fuel efficient, but not the cleanest exhaust output, heavier due to the more solid engine design, more expensive than other fuel source generators. Can be fueled with vehicle tank if a diesel operated vehicle is chosen... same goes for gasoline and this can be quite the advantage.

 

Gasoline... Probably cheaper to buy/operate overall, but other fuel sources have distinct advantages over gasoline. Not much more to add...

 

I can say Generac makes a great generator. Hard working engines, easy to troubleshoot if problems arise, etc. Also would look into Kohler. Honda, Yamaha, etc. would be fine, but costly.

 

One other option would be an RV generator. Very quiet by design, usually run at lower RPMs due to pulleys reducing strain, noise, etc. which equates to greater longevity for the most part. Downside to this is lower power capacity/output and increased cost.

Thank you! I was looking into the Honda generators since I know they are reliable, but yes pricey. I am going to look into the RV generators!
