Need help
After visiting a couple of espresso bars today in NYC, I noticed timers on the grinders. We have a Mazzer Super Jolly and want to put a timer on it. Can anyone recommend where I can find one?

Are you talking about the programmable digital one on the doser lid or the simple rotary one that most of them come with?
If the simple rotary one, there was a guy on here a few weeks ago that was doing the opposite... he may have the original timer laying around:

I have not researched it further so check it out.

Joe - I think that's just the plastic knob + not the switch itself.
Donna -- if you're indeed looking for something more precise than the built-in timer switch, there are several options. I've seen some people using darkroom timers, and most of the industrial PID controller manufacturers make timers as well. If you are crafty with electronics yourself (or have a friend that would exchange electronics expertise for coffee ;), then it's simple enough to build a trivial circuit using a 555 chip and a relay. I'm not sure about the legal implications of using any of these in a working (cafe) environment, as they aren't designed/certified for food service (with the exception of the Waring timer mentioned above).

Espresso Parts NW has digital timer available ~$140 which is used instead of 555 timer circuit and POT. I should say sometimes available, they're currently out and have them on order. (Just got off the phone with them a few minutes ago for just this item.) You won't find them on their website but Dave in Tech support knows about them. This is not a simple plug and play installation and requires decent knowledge of electronics since there are numerous versions of Mazzers within each model line. I have the 555 timer/POT in one Major and plan on using the digital in 3 SJ's and 2 other Majors and then replacing the existing 555/POT. The digital is supposed to be more accurate being adjustable in 0.1sec increments, can be locked out which means not subject to bumping and knocking grind time off accidentally, and displays gind time.
They also offer installation. Their shop rates @ approx three hours plus digital timer actually come in costing less than I know of being charged for Anfim style 555/POT installation by some parties.

3 hrs really for installing a timmer, i'll have 2 brew boilers in a Lm 4 grp in 3 hrs thats crazy.
on another note i know there's a video on youtube of some guy putting a digital on his grinder

Just curious, how many timers have you installed in how many different model grinders? Not saying EPNW estimate of 3 hours is accurate or not. I don't know since I haven't done it yet myself but will be soon. And until I've attempted it myself (with rusty Electronic Engineering degree) I'm not about to castigate Dave at EPNW for saying around 3 hours: including disassembly, usually cleaning, figuring out mounting, drilling, re-wiring etc.

Very nice. Thanks for posting JD. Installation time 30 seconds? So I'm pondering a doserless conversion and one of these. Sounds like massive waste reduction potential for under $200?
