We got it set up at home at this time (while waiting for the coffee shop). I have a Flowjet pump going to it from a 5 gallon water bottle. Today, it started making loud noise while brewing espresso and then it purges water through the opening next to the group head. Anyone?

Is it a Nuova Simonelli, or an Astoria, they are two different machines. Did the water run low in the 5 gallon bucket and you refilled it? Did it suck up air? Is the opening you refer to the hot water spout, or the back flush outlet?

If you let it pull air into the inlet, you will need to bleed the air out, like you do for changing break fluid in a car break system. There is a hex nut on the top of the group (for both the Simonellis and the Astorias) head that can be loosened to let the air out.
Sorry, it's Simonelli Aurelia, duh. It was running low on water before we added into the bucket. We will try to bleed it, thanks!

Was the water coming from behind the front panel, directly underneath the group head?
The water was coming through the opening in between the group heads in the front of the machine and from behind the group head through the front panel. It was also making a loud noice while brewing the espresso.
could be a bad group valve leaking out the exaust. is it still doing it?
You should remove the top panels to see exactly where the water is coming from. Sounds like the machine is new enough to be covered by warantee if it is leaking from a solenoid. Also check for bad or loose compression fittings. Be sure it is not just the drainage catch overflowing. This happens if the drain hose can't go down hill enough under the machine.
Barbara-
It sounds like your machine has overfilled and is leaking through the pressure-relief valve. Check the sight glass to see if you can tell where the top of the water is. Did anyone mess with the butterfly valves under the drain tray? Are you using Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water? Feel free to send me a quick message or ring 360.366.2226 for any assistance.
