A while ago I ran across a term to describe the act of pouring a shot of espresso over a finished blended drink. Now I have forgotten the term. I have had a couple of these recently and like the effect. Anyone know what to call this?

affogato, is actually espresso poured over ice cream/gelato... it could multi task to describe that drink to, but i have never heard of it...
I think SBux started that... calling a blended drink with an added shot an affogato. They had one on their menu a few summers ago. I agree that it's not a traditional use of that term.

so its official, the green apron has corrupted my two favorite drinks, the macciatto and the affogato...
I think some of the confusion is that these drinks have come to been called by an adjective. I got thinking about the etymology of the words "macchiato" and "affogato" they are both adjectives, the describe a drink. So are we talking about an espresso macchiato or a cappuccino macchiato? Are we talking about a gelato affogato or something else affogato? When you look these words up in an Italian dictionary there is not a picture of a drink next to them.

affogato
adj. drowned

Okay, not really.
How about a name that is specifically yours...For instance, we call ours a "Mrs. Muth" after our past managers mother.
In bartendeing terms, when you add a shot to the top of a compelted drink it is called a "float"

Think of it as floating the espresso on the top of a drink as an accent or garnish to the beverage.
So could it be an Espresso float?

I had an ice cream sundae affogato tonight. It was ah-ha-ha-mazing!
I've always had people order that as a "floating" shot. Not something I usually consider part of the gourmet coffee vocab, but when I was working in southern california it was pretty popular to order drinks that way.
