How much for a rebuilt Linea 2AV?
Hi all,
I have been looking for a Linea and have found one that has been completely rebuilt from the frame up. Its a 1994 model, but was rebuilt this year.
Its got a new motor, new pump, completely disassembled and de-scaled internals, new keypads, new switches,completely rewired, new 2mm pitch steam wand bodies, 0.6mm gicleurs for ramped infusion, and new adjustable legs.
The guy is asking 6K for it, is it worth it? Ive heard these machines are unstoppable tanks.....

If he's including a 1yr parts and labor warranty then I'd say it's worth it. If not, I'd try and talk him down a k or so.
And/but no PID? What about Piero groups? If yes to these then $6k maybe not such a bad deal even with no or short warranty like 30 days.
FWIW I paid substantially less for my 3 and 4gr Linea's including PID's and 1yr warranty. Though 2 groups are the hardest to find and hence hardest to get great deals on. And the market isn't glutted with Lineas like it was a few years ago when the Mermaid went super-auto and dumped theirs...

IMHO 6K is a little steep. The refurb sounds like it was well done, but a brand new one can be found for $8500 and this thing is 16 years old.
Don't get me wrong, one of our 4 lineas in the company was also manufactured in '94 and is still being used as our 2nd machine. We started the company with this machine actually, and yes it is built like a tank. Routine maintenance and a little love will make these things last forever, but 6K for one that old just doesn't seem worth it to me. If I had to put a value on it, I would say 3-4K max.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a one group Linea from 2000 and I've replaced many parts on my machine. The keypads are a couple hundred, the switches in the $10-20 range. If the CPU has been replaced it cost quite a bit. None of those things make a two group worth 6k. Even the PID wouldn't make this worth that kind of money. Adding Piero groups would be nice but I don't think a 1994 machine can even accommodate Piero heads. The labor and time it took to rebuild the machine can be expensive especially if the machine took a lot of work to rebuild. Still you should be able to get a better deal.

I have issues with a "brand new" espresso machine that's being sold below dealer price by someone that can't spell the manufacturer's name.

brandy i know thise guys they buy auction ! i bought a lot of stuff from them so far and everyhing been great i found lot of stuff like that i very good price because they dont realy know what is the porduct

There is no way that a used Linea is worth $6K unless it has $3K in cash hidden inside. For our wholesale customers with a purchasing contract we don't charge all that much more for a brand new one.

Based on my experience I have to agree with Mike. I know it sounds stupid but used Lineas cost almost as much as new. And they are hard to find nowadays. The two groups are espesially rare. I agree that 6k is dear but dead stock used 2 grp AV's seem to sell at $4500-5000 around the Seattle area. And they have only been descaled and had the p-stat, prv, and vac break replaced. If you can get him to come down a smidge you'll end up right in the ball park.

That's not the market around Chicago of course we don't have many quality focused independents driving up the used market. It's starting to get more interesting here but it seems every new shop that opens buys a new Synesso or Slayer...
