It's always good to be part of the community. Thanks for the invite!
  • Adam S. Palmer

Thanks. I had a blast in St. Louis, got valuable insight, met some fantastic people, and cannot wait to do it all over again.

    Hey Eric.
I actually do not work at a shop right now. I have to get my fix when I play barista at one of our booths at the trade shows. I can pull a damn nice shot and make a decent cap but I usually let the experts at my favorite shop, Kopplin's or the fine folks at Clover take care of my needs.
How long have you been roasting?
  • Gina Palandri

maybe you'd like to extract some lovely espresso on a La Marzocco GS3?
  • Kevin Selig

    Eric,
I just posted a reply to your Barista Jam idea. We just had one this past December and would love to coordinate another prior to the SCAA show. Please call me @612-250-8277 so we can discuss the matter further
    Thanks, Kevin Selig, UMG

    Eric,
I look forward to hearing from you. I will be out of town (in Milwaukee) March 9th through the 13th doing a trade show, so i might not be able to get a hold of during that time.
Yes, I think I had a great turn out. We had 12 baristas and some local vendor rep's on hand. We used a Nuova Simonelli Aurelia and a Lamazarcco GB5 for the event. This time around my only objective was to get barista's together to meet and share with one another. As these jams progress, I will start to include a little friendly competition. I can use all the help and suggestions that anyone wants to offer. This is for the good of the independent cafe business!
    Have a great weekend!
  • Nicole Michaud

    That sounds awesome Eric!
How fun to do a project on one of your passions.
I will check out your progress.
We don't really have titles at Allied. It's my mom, brother and I so it really doesnt matter much. Titles are over rated anywho.
Any good shops up in Duluth?
  • Gina Palandri

I was just in Duluth!! Do you ever come south?
  • Billy Wilson

hey, you're more than welcome to swing by. but to be honest, i wouldn't be able to say with any certainty that we'll have a position available in June.
  • Robin Johnson

sooo... I was curious to see what this whole "Barista Exchange" thing was about... my page is pretty lame.. I need some sweet pictures to spice it up. You need to come back so I can continue my latte art training! How is Portland by the way ?? Hope you're having fun :)
  • Aaron Boothe

Did you have the Hairbender? Or what about the Ohana from miKe. Too bad about the bike. You should steal one from your uncle. I'm glad to hear Portland is the Coffee mecca we hoped.
  • David Black

Hey Eric, The Black Sheep is doing fantastic. Peter's going to do some remodeling and add a roaster in the near future. Have you met Peter before? I originally met him at a Coffee Fest in Minneapolis.
We had such a rush yesterday, we sold out of every sandwich, soup and salad we had. I'd never worked when it was that busy.

I know Kevin Selig, so I'll contact him about another Jam. Hopefully I won;t have to work. The Black Sheep is a secondary job to indulge my enthusiasm for coffee. I work another JOB. My wife and i come up to Duluth a couple times a year usually. We'll stop by next time. We are usually on Canal Park, (very touristy) but we like it.

Hey, I drank your Red Bull. I had a wicked bad caffeine head ache. Apparently I developed an addiction while I was in Chicago. I was contemplating some Kenya as medicine, but coffee is not about the buzz. Then I saw the slender silver can in the fridge. I thought to myself: coffee is not about the buzz...but Red Bull is. Anyway have fun in the cities.
  • Erin K. Johnson

ha yes...now i just need to start doing a little more latte art youtube-ing!

    Eric,
I just set a date for an orginzed barista Jam in Minneapolis. Does Thursday the 17th of April work for you? I would love to have some help/input from you if you want to assist. I held one back in December of 07 that went quite well, so I am going to stick with that basic plan and already have much needed in place and or ready to produce. I will have a Lazpaziale S5 tall cup espresso machine and am asking for a Nuova Simmonelli Aurelia 2 group from another espresso equipment company in town (Espresso Midwest). Let me know if this date works for you and I will forward you some of the forms I used for the last one to see if you think any tweeking needs to take place. I am sending out a invite to the members of TCCC group on Barista Jam today.
    Thanks, Kevin, Upper Midwest Gourmet
  • Kevin Selig

    Eric,
Thanks for getting back to me.I am deeply sorry that this time does not work for you.
I have indeed asked both Peter and Miguel and both are bringing a crew.
I should be asking you to send me any material that you think should be included in our attendee packages or that you would like to pass along.
If you have any thing, please send it to me direct at kevin@uppermidwestgourmet.net.
I will let you know how it goes after the date.
Thanks again for your interest and "kick in the pants" that inspired me to set a date again.
I am intending to host one quarterly, so take a look at your early summer schedule and let me know if you would like to assist with a summer jam.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Eric,
Thanks for checking in. The jam went pretty good. A little slow start, but after the first hour it got rockin.
Yes I will be at the Jam this weekend. We are exhibiting in booth 434 with a few other vendors. We are also going to be offering assistance to the many other vendors that we work with at the show, So I will be around. If I get some time, I will come look for you at the competition arena, otherwise, give me a call on my cell phone during the show if you can't find me and want to meet. 612-250-8277.
I can try to call you as well if you wish, I would just need your number.
I look forward to meeting with you and sucking some experience out of you!
    Have a great day!!!!!!
  • Scandrea

Yeah, bittersweet is a good way to describe it. But hey, if you're ever hanging around at Nina's again or just around my place you should let me know. We could get some coffee or something.
  • Peter Middlecamp

Tomorrow, my good man, we roast.
  • Peter Middlecamp

I just picked up a box of the La Montana El Sal. Excellent, and I roasted a S.O. Espresso from the Costa Rica Cafetin- very promising!
Can't wait to hear your news from Atlanta.
  • jessica.

Just getting back into Barista Exchange.. I've had it since the start just updated all of it to Minneapolis. :)

I will find out tomorrow about the roast! Ha Ha. Pete and I are both off the floor today. I'm sure he's going to love it! Thanks again for yesterday!
  • Paul

Just read the review. It's really nice to be reviewed by someone who knows about coffee (unlike City Pages, etc!)
  • Craig Muir

    Hi Eric,

I read your article on packaging in August's Roast Magazine. I am in the process of starting a coffee business and had a few questions concerning appropriate packaging and wanted your take on it. If you could pass along an email address I could reach you, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!
    Craig
