yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I have worked on manual, semi-automatic and automatic machines. I prefer the artistry of the manual machines. I worked closely with a coffee roaster in my first coffee house. He would educate me daily in regards to roasting, pulling shots, and more in relation to the prep of espresso and coffee. I'm currently the General Manager of a shop in Austin, Tx. The owner is hands off, so I do everything an owner would do without owning the place, including working the bar, book keeping, payroll + taxes, inventory, maintenance, training and more. My day to day varies greatly and I absolutely LOVE my job. I'm constantly exploring new learning opportunities. I strive to be a rad barista, an awesome general manager, and one day the owner of my very own shop, all while getting to know some really amazing people.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
All of them. Specific interest lies w/ the NW corner of the U.S., as it's the only part of the country I haven't visited/worked in. Origin: Costa Rica, Brasil, Tanzania.
About Me:
I spend most of my time playing music, reading, writing, and drinking coffee.
About My Company:
I'm the General Manager of an indie shop in Austin, Tx. I am fortunate to do everything an owner does (taxes, maintenance, payroll, accounting, training, scheduling, product selection, permitting, bar, inventory, etc...) except that I in no way own it, as the owner is hands off and mainly owns a business in a completely different line of work. I love what I do and I love where I work! We purchase responsible coffee from local roasters. We've restructured just about everything, including intense, ongoing barista training, better customer service, aggressive cost reduction and new menu items. We offer coffee, beer & wine, light fare and live music nightly.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
Direct interaction and involvement with the community I live in.
