drink (6)

Are you concerned that you might be drinking too much coffee? There is no exact amount of coffee that is considered too much since it can vary a lot from person to person. Nonetheless, the following information can still help you to get a better idea of how much coffee you can drink a day without experiencing any issues.

Maximum Recommended Daily Caffeine Intake

The FDA recommends that healthy adults limit their caffeine intake to no more than 400 milligrams per day. If you drink regular brewed coffee, this means you should try to drink no more than four or five 8-ounce cups in a day. However, women who are pregnant or people with serious health problems should limit their caffeine intake to a maximum of 200 milligrams a day.

Many people are surprised to learn that they can actually have more individual shots of espresso in a day than cups of coffee. According to the USDA, a single 1-ounce shot of espresso contains around 64 milligrams of caffeine on average compared to approximately 96 milligrams in an 8-ounce cup of coffee.

Of course, this number can vary quite a bit based on the type of coffee you drink and how it’s made. For instance, there can be a difference between light and dark roast. Although both types have essentially the same caffeine content, a pot of brewed light roast coffee will usually have more caffeine than a pot of dark roast coffee.

The reason is that light roast coffee is denser and thus takes up less volume. This means there would be more coffee in the scoop of light roast than there would be in the same size scoop of dark roast. However, this isn’t the case if you drink k cups since these are always measured and packaged by weight and not volume. K cups are an easy way to keep track of how much coffee you’re drinking so you don’t have to worry about measuring every cup out.

How to Know If You’re Drinking Too Much Coffee

It is usually fairly easy for a person to tell when they’re drinking too much coffee, but this isn’t always the case especially if you have been drinking many cups a day for years. Still, if you find yourself experiencing side effects like headaches, nervousness, anxiety, insomnia or a fast heartbeat, it’s a good idea to cut back and see if this helps.

Caffeine affects people in different ways, and what is just fine for some may be too much for others. Still, one obvious sign that you’re drinking too much coffee is if you find yourself getting jittery or experiencing other issues as soon as you drink even a little bit more. For instance, if you find yourself getting a headache every day as soon as you have your fourth cup, this is a sign that you should limit yourself to three cups at the most.

The good news is that it’s basically impossible to overdose on caffeine by drinking coffee alone. It would take the average person well over 100 cups to approach anything near a lethal dose of caffeine. Nonetheless, if you find yourself experiencing any adverse effects from drinking coffee, you should probably consider cutting back your intake.

Iced Americano coffee drink

This iced Americano is based on one of the simplest coffee drinks recipes. No time for sophisticated coffee drinks recipes? Well, my husband had to figure out something dead easy for all of us who like drinking coffee but have no time. The basis really is easy. Americano is an espresso-based coffee which is produced by adding hot water to a single shot of espresso coffee. You need an electric coffee maker or a hand pressed coffee machine but these can now be found in almost every home anyway.

Slices of lime and yummy apricots are not just decorative elements but they are key ingredients if you want to make really refreshing iced Americano. The whole thing of using apricots was a pure coincidence. I was whining (yet again) how nobody wants to eat fruits when Milan was just sipping his cup of coffee and decided to calm me down a bit. He ate apricots with his Americano and realized how well they go together. Then he thought a few slices of lime may give an extra kick of refreshing flavors and the rest is history.

What do we need in one of the simplest Americano iced coffee drink recipes:

Makes: 2 medium glasses

INGREDIENTS:

- 4 slices from a ripe but hard apricot

- 4 lime slices

- 12 ice cubes - crushed (up to 1 inch wide)

- 2 1/2 cup of Americano coffee (chilled)

Method - how to make Americano iced coffee drink:

- Slice the lime and ripe but still hard apricot into thin 1/8 inch (3mm) slices. You will need 2 slices of each per serving.

- Crush 6 ice cubes per serving and place into a glass to secure the lime and apricot slices (12 cubes for two glasses).

- Coffee brewing: make 2 1/2 cups of Americano by first making two shots of espresso (about 1/4 cup per shot or 1/2 cup in total) and adding 2 cups of hot but not boiling water.

- Pour chilled Americano coffee over the ice, decorate with mint leaves, take a long straw and enjoy this wonderfully refreshing iced coffee.

For the top level of those coffee professionals, we may be at the similar level for the quality of espresso drinks. But, most people cannot make others to do the same, or even better coffee drinks. It is mainly due to the understanding about espresso and its brewing skills. As I said once, we can train about 30 - 50 people in 15 days, if there are enough people coming.Someone said that, they can do many more. Does it mean that they can have those people to make their cafes and the coffee drinks great? OK, let us make a simple calculation.Suppose they can train 80-100 people, then it would be > 150 people per month, and 1800 people per year. How many cafes they can have? it is probably 500 cafes? Or an half of them? In three years, their cafes will cover the whole country and improve their local coffee market totally. Does it happened somewhere? For us, the difficulty is mainly too few people who want to be trained, or know how to choose a right place to be trained. There are indeed many trainers here. If one care enough to visit some of them, and taste their coffee drinks, they can easily find that we are better. But, most people do not. Specially for those young people, they chat with others on the internet and go with them, without careful searching. On the other hand, our trainees are mostly the potential investors for cafes, only few would work as barista. They are mostly high educated and know how to choose the right one from several training places. So, the number of "high qualified cafes" are still small, but continuously increasing. For last year, it was about less than ten, but for this year, it is expected to be around 20-30 for the whole country. As many people knows, we are extremely different from the world coffee industry and those professional organizations. But, our theory really works well. Do you want to give it a try?If someone would have our "barista training" set up for other countries, we can give the best condition for cooperation, because the globel market is so huge and we cannot cover it all. We also expect to improve the quality level of the world coffee industry. So, we need your help.

I am always on the look out for cool glassware and cups that would work well in a barista competition. A lot of baristas serve small volume signature drinks and I wanted to share these beauties. They look awesome and come in Flutes, Tumblers and Goblets. Would be cool to experiment with, and would add a nice visual flare to any presentation.
